Google Adsense: why so many 1-cent clicks?

When I was new to Google Adsense, I checked my Google Adsense so many times a day. Had Google decided to pay me by page views, I would be rich by now.

That was the time when the concept of seo techniques was new to me. I noticed that I had so many one-cent clicks on my blog.

Why were there so many one-cent clicks? I was rather disappointed with Google Adsense. At the rate of making just one cent per click on Google Adsense, I needed 1,000 clicks to reach payout.

Now that I am more knowledgeable in seo and Google Adsense, I can see that there are many factors that resulted in one-cent clicks.

1. Niche.

Niche determines the keyword. Keyword determines the earnings from Google Adsense. You cannot write about personal injury attorney when your blog is celebrity gossips.

Celebrity gossips hardly generate high paying click on Google Adsense.

2. Source of traffic

All my one-cent clicks come from visitors from Africa or Asia. Those from North America and Europe generate higher paying click on Google Adsense.

3. Adsense placement

There was a time when I did not even know how to put the Google ads above the fold. Above the fold means the top half of the page. After I made adjustments to the Google Adsense placement, the number of one-cent clicks reduce drastically.

4. Age of blog

When my blog was new, it did not attract high-paying advertisements. A single click on Google Adsense in Hubpages is worth more than ten times the earnings from my blog.

As my blog ages and attains a higher page rank (PR), the click value of Google Adsense increases.

What about you? Do you have many one-cent clicks?
